Meet Mr. Samith
Mr. Sath Samith and his wife are ambitious in their vision for Save Poor Children in Asia Organization (S.C.A.O.) and the orphaned children of Cambodia. He grew up in Svay Kon Keo Commune (Takeo Province, Cambodia). When Mr. Samith was young, the Khmer Rouge killed his father leaving him, his three sisters and four brothers to live in poverty. He left his home at the age of twelve to go to Phnom Penh where he lived in a Buddhist monastery for nine years. He studied Forestry and Journalism at Chom Kadon University. Mr. Samith also worked for the government Forestry Department where he traveled to 24 Provinces learning and advocating sustainable forestry methods.
Mr. and Mrs. Samith´s passion to help their country has driven them to open up a centre where poor children are cared for, loved and educated. S.C.A.O. gives children the opportunity to live with the Samith Family, escape from poverty and isolation and be in an environment where education is accessible. These children are taught valuable skills that will help them be independent and self-sustainable, as well as giving them the opportunity of having a brighter future.
S.C.A.O. received its first license from the United Nations in 1993 and its second registered license from the Cambodian Authorities on October 27, 2004. With the generous contributions and donations from various volunteers from around the world, S.C.A.O. was built and officially opened on December 5, 2007. Since its creation, S.C.A.O. has evolved into a wonderful environment where children and volunteers can feel at home, learn, play and prosper.
